ICANN has assigned .nc as the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the country New Caledonia. The registration service for this domain is sponsored by the Office of the Stations and Telecommunications. CCTLD.NC is the official provider that maintains of the administration of .nc top level domain for New Caledonia. In actual use, the .nc extension is also the second level domain for the state of North Carolina in the United States.
An applicant interested in .nc registration should ideally be familiar with the rules and principles of the registration authority. Individuals registering under .nc zone must have a local presence. Currently, registration is open to private individuals. In the case of organizations, they must either be registered commercial companies in New Caledonia or they should have representatives in New Caledonia. The name of the domain you wish to create can be the names or initials of the organization, institution, a company or an association registered in New Caledonia. All entities are forced to display proof in support of identity before the administrator of ccTLD.nc.
A recognized entity can request for a maximum of three domain names. The domain name can be a mix up of alphanumeric characters, including hyphen. Lower and upper characters in the English alphabet are treated alike. The hyphen is not to be used at the beginning or end of the domain name. Each label in the domain name has to be separated by the dot symbol. The domain name can contain three to sixty three characters. The registrants in New Caledonia can register subdomains such as:
- .com.nc for commercial entities
- .net.nc for networking sites
- .org.nc for non commercial organizations
The filled out form has to be dispatched to the administrator of ccTLD.nc.
The registrant has to pay the applicable registration process fee for .nc registration to the Office of the Stations and Telecommunications.
